Sustainable Development Strategies and Policy Recommendations For International Tourism: The Case Of Kyrgyzstan

Year 2025, Volume: 17 Issue: 3, 165 - 180, 29.09.2025

Abstract

This study aims to develop effective policies and strategies for international tourism, with a focus on creative tourism models that promote sustainable development targets. Kyrgyzstan's tourism industry's strengths, shortcomings, prospects, and hazards were evaluated using a SWOT analysis to inform the development of sustainable tourism policies. The results suggest that Kyrgyzstan needs integrated tourism policies to achieve its sustainable development objectives. These rules should encourage eco-friendly behavior, utilize digital technologies effectively, and ensure that local populations derive greater benefits from tourism. Moreover, accelerating the digitalization of Kyrgyzstan's travel industry and expanding green tourism projects will significantly reduce environmental impacts and enhance sustainable travel models. Ultimately, the research demonstrates that, with the implementation of the correct policies and strategies, Kyrgyzstan's tourism industry can become a significant contributor to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. These steps will not only support environmental sustainability but also local community growth.
