Organizational Shame: Scale Adaptation And A Research On Employees
Abstract
The aim of this study is to research the concept of organizational shame, which takes attention to the scarcity of studies, and to research how employees experience the sense of organizational shame and how shame management occurs in these situations. Within the scope of the study, firstly, a detailed literature research about organizational shame was reviewed and the structure and elements of organizational shame were tried to be revealed. Then, the Turkish version of the shame management scale was performed. In the methodology part, with this scale, data were obtained from a sample of 808 people on a voluntary basis across the country. According to the data obtained from the valid and reliable scale, the shame acknowledgement is at a medium level and the shame displacement is at a low level. It is also examined whether shame management differs according to demographic characteristics. For experience of shame acknowledgement; significant results showed that, women experience higher than men, public employees experience higher than private sector employees, and with less working time experience higher than who have more. On the other hand shame displacement results showed that public employees have lover averages than private sector employees. It was observed that shame displacement decreased as the level of education increased. Similarly, it has been observed that the total working time may decrease as well.
