Zürih Üniversitesi Paleontoloji Müzesi’nde Bulunan Çorakyerler Suidae Materyallerinin Revizyonu

Anadolu’da
Geç Miyosen’e tarihlenen birçok lokalite bulunmaktadır. Bunların büyük bir
çoğunluğu 1968-1970 yılları arasında Türk-Alman Linyit Araştırmaları
Projesi’nde keşfedilmiştir. Bulunan fosillerin bir kısmı günümüzde yurt dışındaki
çeşitli Doğa Tarihi ya da Paleontoloji Müzeleri’nde tutulmaktadır. Geç
Miyosen’de özellikle Erken Turoliyen için referans bir lokalite olan
Çorakyerler’in de yurt dışında malzemeleri bulunmaktadır. Çorakyerler suid
koleksiyonu açısından da iyi korunmuş örneklere sahip olup, özellikle Suinae alt ailesinin yıllardır süren
taksonomik problemlerine ışık tutma potansiyeline sahiptir.



Zürih
Üniversitesi Paleontoloji Müzesi (PIMUZ) çeşitli Anadolu fosillerini bünyesinde
barındırmaktadır, bu müzede Çorakyerler’in suid örnekleri az sayıda da olsa
bulunmaktadır. Bunlar adına yapılan ilk tanımlama Dicoryphochoerus olmuştur ve müzede bu etiketle depolanmıştır. Bu
çalışmada, bu müzedeki Çorakyerler suidlerinin revizyounu yapılmıştır.
Örneklerin morfolojik ve morfometrik verileri Çorakyerler’in genel suid
koleksiyonu ile uyumlu görünmekle birlikte, tanımlamanın Hippopotamodon major olarak güncellenmesi sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
