Farklı Yönleriyle Absenteizm ve Sağlık Çalışanlarındaki Önemi

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 71 - 92, 24.12.2022

Abstract

Absentism with Different Aspects and its Importance in Healthcare Professionals

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 71 - 92, 24.12.2022

Abstract

Absenteeism is a concept that comes from the word "absence" and refers to all kinds of absenteeism for not being at work during working hours. The concept is evaluated only by the employee for some authors and only by the employer for others. In addition, it has been observed that many conflicts of opinion continue to not adequately address issues such as flexible working, reports, excuses, administrative and annual leave, unplanned absence, and sick leave. It is estimated that this is because the number of studies comprehensively discussing and explaining the concept of absenteeism is relatively low. For this reason, it is thought that this study, which deals with absenteeism in many dimensions, will contribute to the literature.
Due to the unique characteristics of health, absenteeism seems to have an important and special place. In this integrative review, many definitions of absenteeism are explained in many aspects, evaluated in terms of its causes and consequences, and studies on absenteeism in healthcare professionals are mentioned.
Health care is a field based on people and expertise, non-substitutable, and not error-prone. It is believed that the way to control the effects of absenteeism in this area is to choose the right workforce for the organization, create business plans in preparation for employee absenteeism, listen to employee expectations, bring suitably qualified managers to positions and increase the employment of healthcare professionals. It can be said that it is important for the employee to avoid problems with the management, to have an easier stress management opportunity, to reduce the fear of losing the job, to reduce internal conflicts, and to have the workload at a manageable level. From this point of view, it’s expected that a better-quality health service will emerge in the social sense if responsible behaviors are displayed on both sides regarding absenteeism.
